Trends to Watch Out For

Now, THIS is late! It's already mid-March and I still haven't done my full-blown take on the top 2008 Trends. But what the heck, better late than never. :)

Is the skinny out? Is it the return of the 70s? What colors are ruling the runways? What fabrics are filling the racks?

Here's my take on all the (sometimes contradicting) trend forecasts. While it's fun to be in the know and to play around with the new takes on fashion, keep in mind that trends are not rules to follow. Fashion is all about enjoyable dress-ups, and not being boxed in. ;)

Bold, Vibrant Colors

Last year was practically the year of the gray, but this time around, the bolder the color, the better. It's also possible to play it up and pair a neutral gray dress with a vibrant yellow shoe. Experiment.

Red On Top

Let's highlight the most wanted color of the season--red! Remember the red hot Oscars gowns? Yes, bloody red!

Yet Sparkling

Interestingly enough, silver (in a more neutral silver-gray tone... not the shouting metallic of 2006) is sparkling the runways.

Grecian Inspiration

Forget Jennifer Hudson's too-much-skin Grecian dress, and flavor your own. Likewise, asymmetry is making a comeback.

70s Florals

We've had too much of geometric prints!
It's now time for a more flirty, feminine look.

Sheaths and Frills

Soft, sheer, chiffon fabrics are everywhere! The idea is to wear something airy, floaty, ruffly, lacey... you get the point. :)

Maxis

They're still here! Although not the best for petite women, maxis are really comfortable. Go for flowing (not too loose on top) drapes in casual styles. For summer, pair your maxi dress with wedges or flats.

Soft Safari

It's all about the jungle now that tribal is making a bold comeback. Go easy with the prints though. No one wants to be all Leopard-y.

Wider Than Skinny

I still refuse to! I am holding my ground! But yeah, move over skinnies because here are the oh-so-not-flattering wide leg pants. Boo. Again, I refuse to! ;)

Higher

Sadly, most fashion magazines I've read are saying ballet flats are out. (Nooooo...) But look at the bright side, now that wedges are hot, we all get to be taller.

Top This

Scarves are here. But no thanks to our weather, not so much. Good thing the versatility of scarves allows for an interesting take on the hot head-accessorizing trend.
